Just three days after the final of the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup, the next big bike event is already on the programme in Saalfelden Leogang. From 15 to 18 June 2016, the four-day mountain bike stage race for everyone will once again take place in Salzburg and Tyrol in Austria - two regions that are not only scenic, but also offer a high proportion of trails for a varied route design. The concept is new in 2016: four stages and only two stage locations - Saalfelden Leogang and Kirchberg in Tirol, the top regions for mountain bikers. In line with the motto "less is more", the focus is on quality - biking fun and relaxation take centre stage. Both regions are known for boundless biking fun. In total, almost 207 kilometres and around 8,140 metres in altitude have to be covered in four days. The starting point of the first stage in Saalfelden Leogang is the BikePark Leogang. From here, the route leads into the Schwarzleotal valley and back towards the bike park. The rapid downhill on the Hangman Trail offers pure riding fun. From Saalfelden, the route then leads through the Bürgerau up to the Bürgerberg very close to the majestic rock faces of the Steinernes Meer, the landmark of Saalfelden. On the second day, the route leads directly from Saalfelden up to the Biberg, 750 steep metres in altitude have to be climbed. After a varied panoramic trail, it's off to the trails and then another 200 metres up to the summit of the Kohlmais. The grand finale of the second stage is the hot ride over the "Flying Gangster", the steep and twisting freeride line in the Leogang bike park. Stages three and four start and end in Kirchberg in Tirol. On the third stage, the trails lead us past the Harlassanger Trail to the Spertental valley, along the Brügglbach stream up to the Brechhornhaus. From here, the trail continues via the Fleidingalm to the Choralm, via an alpine path and the Kandleralm down to Brixen im Thale. Shortly before Kirchberg in Tirol, the last ascent of this stage awaits, up to the Gaisberg. A rapid descent on the Lisi-Osl-Trail takes you to the finish of the penultimate stage. The fourth and final stage leads directly towards Brixen. Shortly before Brixen, the ascent to the Wiegalm begins, which forms the pass crossing from the Brixental valley into the Spertental valley. Here, too, the beautiful Harlassanger trail is ridden a second time. The route then heads back towards Stangenjoch, the border with Pinzgau, in the direction of Kirchberg in Tirol. The route continues steeply up to the Pengelstein, from the Streiteggmulde up to the Ehrenbachhöhe. The final highlight of the BIKE Four Peaks 2016 is the Fleckalm Trail, which leads directly from the trail to the finish. But it's not just amateur downhillers who will be romping around the trails in Pinzgau again in 2016. From 9 to 12 June, the bike park will once again be a hotspot for professionals at the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup. Bikepark Leogang kicks off the summer season. And while "Bongo Bongo", "Flying Gangster", "Hang Man II" and "Speedster" will be giving all amateur bikers a good shake from today, 12 May, the pros of the scene will be taking to the Pinzgau stage from 9 to 12 June. For the sixth time, the track in Leogang has been chosen by the UCI as the venue for the Downhill World Cup and will bring the best in the world to the region in four weeks' time as part of the "Out of Bounds Festival". Rapid descents over root carpets and stone passages The Speedster Trail is peppered with steep steps, rough root carpets, tight hairpin bends and fast sections that demand all the skills of the World Cup riders. At speeds of over 70 km/h, the bikers fight for every hundredth of a second over the 2.6 kilometres. In addition to sophisticated riding technique and strong acceleration, it is also the necessary bit of courage that decides who wins the day. In any case, it's not for the faint-hearted - neither for the riders nor for the spectators. The latter are guaranteed a first-class bike spectacle from 9 to 12 June 2016. Pure bike action at the Out of Bounds Festival The UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup will be framed by the legendary "Out of Bounds Festival". Once again, the event puts the Saalfelden Leogang region completely in the hands of gravity sports for a whole weekend. From the 26TRIX Dirt Jump Contest to the Pump Track Contest and an extensive supporting programme - the fans and riders of the scene really let it rip on these days. Two further highlights in this year's supporting programme are the trial show by and with Tom Öhler before the women's final race and the spectacular performance by the Red Bull Skydive Team before the big men's showdown on Sunday.
A new trail will be flowing through Bikepark Leogang this year: “HOT SHOTS – fired by GoPro”. The new flow trail with its easy to ride tables provides pure pleasure for all bikers, from beginners to pro shredders. Capture its 3.5 kilometers / 2.17 miles of pure biking pleasure on your GoPro this summer. Saalfelden Leogang is the epicenter of the European gravity scene and now has one attraction more to offer for the upcoming season. The trail “HOT SHOTS – fired by GoPro” will be the new point of interest for flow fans. When having reached the top station all one has to do is switch on the GoPro and get going in front of the fantastic panorama of the Leoganger Steinberge. Very soon bikers will be sweeping through the forest into the valley and the desired roller coaster feeling will kick in. Easy to ride berms will bring a bright smile to every rider’s face and the terrain makes pedaling almost needless. No matter if you are a beginner or an experienced rider, everyone will have huge amounts of fun on the new trail “HOT SHOTS – fired by GoPro”. At the mid station the riders then have to make a difficult decision: beginners might want to head over to the “Hangman II” to ride down into the valley. Accomplished bikers can try to conquer the World Cup “Speedster” track. Of course there is the possibility of taking the lift back up and enjoying the new rollercoaster trail again. The “HOT SHOTS – fired by GoPro” was inspired by the Leogang team’s countless rides in in Europe and Canada. Chief shaper Reini Leitner and his crew utilized their creativity and all their experience when creating the new trail, which gives bikers yet another reason to visit Leogang. The heavily addictive flow trails have made an incredible impact over the past years. Almost every biker loves the rollercoaster ride on that stirs up butterflies in your stomach. Breaking is often superfluous due to the fairly low gradient and the waves and berms let you ride with playful, elegant moves – a feeling that makes you want more. In the midst of the European winter, on the slopes of Saalfelden Leogang, some of the world’s best slopestyle riders just threw down one of the most heated finals ever. Szymon Godziek (POL) clinched a consecutive victory after beating Matt Jones (GBR) for the title. A pleasant sight was also seeing Russia’s Pavel Alekhin winning another best trick here at White Style. Just before the White Style finals, Austrian hero Fabio Wibmer won the Scott Snow Downhill Dual Race in front of Austria’s top UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup rider Markus Pekoll. When visitors began lining the ropes up the giant slopestyle course in Saalfelden Leogang they had no idea what they were going to witness. 20 riders were invited to compete in the 10th anniversary of the FMB Silver Event, 5 of which were pre-qualified for the finals due to their FMB ranking, and another seven were taken from a qualifying round earlier in the afternoon. In the finals, towards the end of the second run things really began to heat up. Pavel Alekhin, famous in Saalfelden Leogang for his 2013 victory, jumped into first place with an amazing run including a backflip barspin to tailwhip and huge backflip double tailwhip. “I am super happy to have completed my run. I was so scared about the backflip barspin to whip and landing it was awesome! But still, Godziek is the boss and Jones is the boss! Respect to them.” Then, British rider Matt Jones dropped in with victory in his eyes – his run included a surprising double backflip and clean 360 no hand. His run bumped him up into first place, moving Pavel down to second. “I am honored to come second to Szymon, he did some FMX tricks, MTB tricks and BMX tricks, he won last year and has retained the title. I’m excited for him. White Style was awesome, Leogang always is. I will be back for 26TRIX in a few months for sure”, commented Matt after the podium ceremony. Despite having no idea how to beat Matt’s run, Szymon Godziek unleashed an incredible trick combo featuring a frontflip barspin, backflip cliffhanger and cork 720 to finish. The Polish rider has claimed his second consecutive win here at White Style and commented: “I was first after my first run, but dropped to fourth heading into my second run and I thought to my myself I am here to win and nothing less. The other guys really put pressure on me to ride my best and I couldn’t be happier with the result.” Shortly after the main contest, the riders took part in a Best Trick jam session. With all 2500 spectators gathered around the big booter in the finish area, the atmosphere was ripe for crazy tricks! Swedish rider Elof Lindh threw down a triple tailwhip. Anton Thelander was demonstrating why he is known as “Cleanlander” and Lukas Knopf was hoping to redeem a big trick after crashing in the finals. The top three riders from the Best Trick jam session are Pavel Alekhin (Flip bar to bar to tailwhip), Szymon Godziek (cork 720 can-can that has never been shown on a mountain bike) and Diego Caverzasi (Backflip Cliffhanger). The 10th anniversary White Style, Europe’s traditional season opener, was a great success. Event host from Bikepark Leogang Kornel Grundner comments: “The 10th anniversary was a sensational show. I think when riders reach points in the high 90’s, it’s clear that the level is very high. We had a great birthday party and everyone enjoyed the celebrations.” Between the White Style qualifying and finals, the Scott Snow Downhill Dual Race kept everyone entertained. Over 30 riders participated in this fun side event. In the end, the world-renowned street trials and downhill rider Fabio Wibmer was surprisingly faster than Austria’s UCI World Cup powerhouse Markus Pekoll.
