Darius Jones & Otomo Yoshihide Quintet
USA, Japan
Darius Jones - alto saxophone
Otomo Yoshihide - guitar
Nick Dunston - double bass
Gerald Cleaver - drums
Yasuhiro Yoshigaki – drums
Overcoming a distance of 6,800 miles and 20 years, alto saxophonist Darius Jones from Norfolk/Brooklyn and guitarist Otomo Yoshihide from Yokohama/Fukushima, playfully bridge that gap for this premiere performance. The Man’ish e’Boi, who hears his music as a “confrontation against apathy and ego,” takes along his longtime drummer Gerald Cleaver, while the noise-loving “politician of musical powerlessness” brings his former “Ground Zero” bandmate, jazz drummer Yasuhiro Yoshigaki. Bassist Nick Dunston completes this quintet, which thrives on the superpower of surprise, in the spirit of Sun Ra, where “only the impossible happens.”
