16th Austrian Cycling Summit: Pathways to Everyday and Leisure Cycling

The specialist conference in Saalfelden Leogang will focus for two days on the opportunities and challenges of sustainable mobility.

Under the motto “Cycle.Region.Move.”, Saalfelden will become the central stage for the 16th Austrian Cycling Summit from June 3–4, 2025. The high-profile expert conference, featuring international participants, will be held in cooperation with the City of Saalfelden, the Saalfelden Leogang region, the Province of Salzburg, and the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure, as part of the climate protection initiative klimaaktiv mobil.

“Cycling is not only an environmentally friendly and healthy mobility solution, but also a key factor for the sustainable development of our cities and regions. The 16th Austrian Cycling Summit in Saalfelden will be a great opportunity to present innovative approaches to promoting cycling. Our goal is to further expand infrastructure and make switching to bikes attractive for even more people,” says Minister of Mobility Peter Hanke.

“The Province of Salzburg has set itself the goal of becoming climate-neutral, energy-autonomous, and sustainable. That’s why cycling for short distances is the mode of transport of the future. Every kilometer traveled by bike instead of car helps us reach our climate goals and improve quality of life. The Cycling Summit is a valuable platform to share best practices and generate new momentum for cycling promotion,” says Deputy Governor Stefan Schnöll.

“As the City of Saalfelden, we want to show how livable communities can be shaped through smart and climate-friendly mobility. We consciously promote cycling and combine it with a well-developed public transport system. The Cycling Summit offers a chance to explore new approaches and take further steps together toward sustainable mobility,” says Erich Rohrmoser, Mayor of Saalfelden.

“Saalfelden Leogang is not only a top destination for cycling sports, but also a pioneer of sustainable cycling culture. Bridging the gap between leisure and everyday cycling is essential for the development of modern mobility concepts. The Cycling Summit will help raise awareness and inspire innovative projects,” adds Marco Pointner, CEO of Saalfelden Leogang Touristik GmbH.

Strengthening Cycling, Advancing the Mobility Transition
The 16th Austrian Cycling Summit places the connection between leisure and everyday cycling at its core. The aim is to harness synergies and develop innovative mobility concepts that sustainably strengthen cycling. Especially in rural areas, the bicycle holds great potential for covering short everyday distances in a sustainable way and driving the mobility transition forward.

The summit is aimed at decision-makers from cities, municipalities and regions, federal states and national institutions, mobility planners, representatives from science and business, as well as all cycling enthusiasts. In addition to expert presentations and discussions, the program includes exciting excursions to visit successfully implemented projects in and around Saalfelden.

An engaging side program will also be offered to the general public. Highlights include the cycling parade through the city center and a jazz concert by the band “Shake Stew” on June 3. Under the motto “Cycling Meets Jazz”, the event will take place at the Kunsthaus Nexus.
